What we have Learnt since the Restart of the Premier League

Sometimes we don’t appreciate the little things in our lives until they slip off our hands.

The big gap in your life? It turns out that it was made of Jose Mourinho’s hilarious yet controversial press conferences and David Luiz’s absurd errors.

But even in such weird times, it’s been exciting to know that some things never change. For instance, Kevin De Bruyne is still treating us to those insanely breathtaking free-kicks, and Arsenal is still….well, Arsenal.

Honestly, we missed the premier league action during this lockdown period. It’s been three months of absolute boredom and uncertainty. And while football activities have returned, albeit, behind closed doors, it’s still a sigh of relief for the many who savor such moments.

It’s been barely two weeks since the restart, but there has already been so much to talk and laugh about. Lest you forget, we already have a Champions League, and the FA Cup matches return.

We take a look at four things we’ve enjoyed since the premier league returned to our screens.

Let’s go!

1. The Same Old Arsenal

Most Arsenal fans enjoyed the football break, and the premier league restart didn’t just come at the right time for them.

You see, football’s return was expected to lift the morale of fans and flash a ray of optimism among all people in the world.

Sadly, the exact opposite has happened for Arsenal fans.

The Gunners started on a wrong footing, getting a drab in the hands of Manchester City before losing to Brighton.

And while they redeemed themselves with a 1-2 win over Southampton on Wednesday, it seems like Mirkel Arteta has a massive job to turn things around.

And not even the news of David Luiz signing a new contract has lifted the spirits at Emirates.

Well, it’s the same old Arsenal!

2. Manchester United On the Roll

For the first time in the premier league, Bruno Fernandez and Paul Pogba partnered in the midfield. And against Sheffield United, they were terrific, showing flashes of brilliant passes and incredible interchanges.

United are unbeaten on 12 matches in all competitions, scoring 30 goals and conceding just three. They sit fifth in the premier league table and look prime to finish within the Champions League spot.

3. Jose Mourinho’s Drama

It would be dishonest to say that we missed Jose’s brand of football. I don’t think he’s had one in the recent past.

And if he has, then it’s one you’d probably keep away from watching.

But away from that, the Portuguese hasn’t been camera shy- taking on journalists and throwing words whenever he feels like.

And on Monday, via zoom, he said Drogba scored 186 goals during his four seasons at the club.

He looked serious and sure about it. However, the truth is that the Ivory Coast International netted 73 goals under Mourinho.

4. Black Lives Matter Campaign

Football has equally got a fair share of racism drama. We all have witnessed players like Balotelli walk off the pitch after being taunted. Rahim Sterling has been vocal on the matter, urging the World governing body to take strict measures to curb the same.  We’ve seen the images of footballers and backroom staff taking a knee before matches to promote the equality message. Once again, football has joined the push for real change and equality.
