Their Season So Far: Bruno Fernandez

Bruno Fernandez

Bruno Fernandez arrived at Manchester from Sporting Lisbon, amid low key reception and relatively low hype. And maybe that’s why since putting ink to paper five months ago, the Portugal International has cemented a starting place in the star-studded Manchester United team.

In his first few games at Old Trafford, the exciting midfielder showed a glimpse of quality touches, reassuring the Old Trafford faithful of the exceptional talent they were welcoming the Carrington ground.

Less than a month into his mercurial signing, the diminutive midfielder was already lighting up the stands at Old Trafford, bringing back the memories of Paul Scholes’s calmness and amazing skills.

First Games at Old Trafford

And who doesn’t remember his debut against Wolves? The 25-year-old produced a master-class performance, and ultimately being named man of the match. On that day, the creative midfielder was a virtuoso. He wasn’t just playing football; he was playing some beautiful music, gentle for the soul. He composed songs with his feet, sending the United faithful into a frenzy.

His breed of football was country music, something you consume with a fine blend of scotch whiskey in your hand.

Then there is that nostalgic performance against Chelsea that helped United seal a vital win to make the race for top-four finish wide open.

It was an extremely precise yet vicious corner kick for Harry Maguire’s well-timed header.

Since then, Bruno Fernandez has had exhilarating performances that have helped Red Devils grab the most vital points during the season.

What makes him a special player?

Few players can get to the level of Bruno Fernandez, and do precisely what he does each day. Andrea Pirlo redefined the number six role; his long shot passes the prime example of the rare talent he was. Bruno is the replica of the Italian midfield dynamo.

His long-range shooting is exceptional. However, one of his most outstanding assets is his subtle yet vicious passing. It’s a blend of unmatched execution and singular vision. In his exquisite passes, he gives fans more than just entertainment.

Bruno grew through the ranks in Portugal, a country where most teams set up so much defensively and don’t concede often. And maybe that’s where his fantastic passing skills became in handy. If you need a player who will do something different- a tin opener, then Bruno is the right guy.

If he isn’t finding ways through solid defenses with suave passes, then he’s coming in with spectacular goals.

Playing with Pogba

The duo paired for the first time in the midfield in the Red Devil’s one-all-draw against Tottenham Hotspurs. And while they didn’t play for the whole 90 minutes, their dazzling exchanges in the midfield was enough testament that their partnership could prove to be a nightmare for teams in the coming weeks.

Bruno makes everything on the pitch look so easy. However, we’ve also seen a United side that looked dull and uninspiring without the superstar. Therefore, it underscores his importance in the team and shows just how difficult it’s to replicate his performances.
