A Look At Premier League Players Who Are Out Of Contract

The transfer market would have ordinarily opened on July 1st, opening the market for teams to bolster their squad ahead of the new season. However, that hasn’t been the case. Many players are out of contract, with most leagues yet to wind up their seasons.

It’s been an unpredictable last four months, with the corona pandemic continuing to send waves of uncertainty among different nations and races. With almost every country put in lockdown as the virus spread, football activities were halted, marking the beginning of new order in the sporting world.

Unpredictable transfer period

However, it’s been now more than six months since the first case was reported. Many countries have eased their restrictions, and activities are back to normal. And although football is back without fans in the stands, it’s welcome news for many enthusiasts who had spent months on boring activities.

With most leagues almost winding up, the transfer market is already open, and teams are out shopping for the best prospects. This summer transfer market will be fiercely competitive, with teams looking to add quality signings into their sides.

But what makes it even more competitive is the straining economic times brought about by the ravaging corona pandemic.

However, there is more than that

The Premier League went on a three-month hiatus, disrupting every program and extending the league period beyond June. It becomes complicated given that many players’ contracts normally expire by the end of June.

While FIFA has given the Premier League teams the go-ahead to discuss the modalities on transfer, some players have been allowed to leave at the expiry of their contract. Yet others have temporarily renewed their contracts to see the remaining season to the end.

Who are these players? Are they willing to renew their contracts?

We take a look at a selected few!

Pedro, Chelsea

The 32-year-old has been a regular in the Chelsea team since crossing over from Barcelona. His contract came to an end in June, forcing the club o offer him a short term contract as he waits for a possible move to Roma.

With the season yet to end, it was vital for Chelsea to find a way around on how to keep him for the time being.

Willian, Chelsea

The Brazilian midfielder has had an amazing stay at the Stamford Bridge, helping the club win important matches and valuable trophies. It’s therefore not surprising to see Chelsea still hanging on him, reluctant to let him go.

However, it seems the Brazilian is unhappy with the one-year contract extension being offered and would move out after spending seven years at the club.

David Silva, Manchester City

The Spaniard has had a glittering career at the Etihad, rising from a surplus player to captain one of the most formidable sides in the premier league.

And after a decade donning the blue shirt, David Silva has announced he will be leaving Manchester City, with a reported move to Qatar on the books.

His next destination is unknown. However, he will certainly be saying goodbye.

Adam Lallana, Liverpool

Lallana already extended his stay at Anfield, but will still move after getting his Premier League Winner’s medal.

He will be a free agent, and with teams yet to come to terms with the financial drain, it might be costly for any team to take him on a bossman.
